Have You Made Your New Years Resolution

new-years-resolutionsEvery year, weight loss is the top on many peoples new years resolution list. A couple of years ago, people focused on saving money and paying off credit debt, but now due to many over weight people, weight loss is the at the top. The sad part is that not everyone who makes these resolutions actually goes through with their plans. The reason behind it is that they get de-motivated since their goal is too far to reach. A new year’s resolution should be just a goal which you wish to achieve in a period of one year. If you plan on achieve your goal, you should make sure that your goal is realistic. Once you have made a realistic goal, focus on what you will do to achieve your goal. If you plan on loosing weight, you can get more exercise and eat well. There is nothing hard about the initial process, the only hard part is staying motivated and going through with it.

If you have been search around the internet for more information, you probably have come across the SMART principle. It is a simple method used in almost any situation, where there is an end goal. In terms of schooling, the SMART principle is taught to students starting from high school. We look through what the SMART principle is and how it can help you make your new years resolutions.

Specific: This is to indicate that your goal is specific. Do not choose something that is too vague. If your plan is to ‘loose weight’, it is considered very vague. To be specific, you should write down something similar to, ‘I want to loose twenty pounds this year’. When someone reads your goal, they should be able to follow it themselves as well.

Measurable: Just as the name suggests, your goal should be measurable. It will help when you are tracking your progress, or if you want to explain to someone, who you are improving. If you are quitting smoking; you can say you will reduce your smoking habit by three cigarettes every week. It is also used to measure the amount of progress you expect in a year.

Attainable: As we discussed earlier, you should keep your goals realistic, in order to attain them. If your goals are out of reach, then there is no way you will be motivated to aim for it. On the other hand, if your goal is very minimal, you will believe it is not worth the try. So, aim for something you can work with.

Relevant: Your goal must be something you really want to achieve. If you are doing it because someone is telling you to, then it would not be much fun. If it’s something you really want to achieve, you will put your time and effort to reach the end goal. If you feel you are just lazy, you can get someone to help you stay motivated. Taking the tasks with someone with a similar goal will also help you.

Time: You should fix a specific schedule for your time-goalstasks and set an end time. If you have deadlines setup, then you would be aiming to achieve your goal by then. Time is money, so try not to waste time on your journey to achievement.
